The BOMA W2 Challenge

BOMA International recently announced the release of a new, two-year initiative for commercial real estate: the BOMA W2 Challenge. This initiative will support the benchmarking of water and waste consumption and associated costs in commercial real estate, then implement best practices to increase and improve water efficiency & performance and reduce waste generation.

This new program will begin on January 1st, 2018 and run through December 31st, 2019. Eligible participants will be recognized by BOMA International for their industry leadership and commitment to environmental sustainability.

Why should you participate?

  • Gain understanding of your properties’ water and waste consumption
  • Track trends in your consumption performance
  • Identify opportunities for improvement
  • Receive training and guidance on how to improve your utility management practices
  • Reduce operating costs
  • Earn recognition as a market leader in benchmarking and performance improvement
  • Showcase your dedication to sustainable operating practices

All participants in the challenge will be recognized for their efforts, and buildings & portfolios that show any improvement will be featured at a future BOMA International Conference & Expo. Some of these success stories will also be featured in future BOMA publications, after the challenge is finished. Participants are also encouraged to publicize their commitment to the challenge, using the logo and other marketing materials provided about the challenge.

What’s the next step?

The commitment deadline for the challenge is January 1st, 2018. Before you’re eligible to participate, you’ll need to share your buildings with BOMA’s ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager profile, and commit to entering water and waste consumption and cost data into Portfolio Manager at least quarterly during the challenge.
